If education gives us the authority to discriminate others then I am ashamed to have it.
I was at the smoking area together with two other smokers that were outside of the designated area which prompted the security to call out their attention telling them that they have to be inside the smoking area. The security actually did the right thing but the two smokers were not happy about it. One of the smokers said that he was too strict as if he’s a police insinuating that only a police officer has the authority to do that and the other one agreed by saying – in verbatim “skwela sa para ma police” (study first to become a policeman) and they continue their insults on the security guard until they smoked the butt of their cigars.
I tried to get their point that I finally realized they’re both pointless. I cannot imagine how difficult to follow a simple rule that is actually posted on all four corners of the smoking area and the fact that they work as a call center agent so they should be able to recognize that the security guard is just following the instruction stated to his job description. I feel sad for the security but I feel deeply upset for the two smokers for their ignorance and immorality. I’ve heard so many people belittling the job of a security guard saying that they do nothing but to spend their whole day standing at the gate but I think this is the kind of job where you actually dig your hole on the ground -- 6 feet deep.
Some people are too quick to judge which doesn’t make them any smarter but more likely to be less capable of using their brain power. They were not actually insulting the security guard but themselves. I just have to write about this because I don't want to keep that memory echoing in my mind. Salute to all the security guards!
